Topic 1: Up Movie Review

One of my favourite movies is Up. Up is an animated movie that was directed by Pete Docter, along with Bob Peterson, and Tom McCarthy. The film focuses around an elderly widow named Carl Fredrickson voiced by Ed Asner and wilderness Explorer Russell voiced by jordan Nagai, who goes on a journey to South America in order to fulfill a promise that Carl made to his late wife Ellie.

Along the way, They meet a talking dog named Dug and encounter and giant bird ostrich named Kevin, who is being hunted by the explorer Charles Muntz.

The reason why Up is one of my favourite movies is because of how well the film is able to make me feel emotionally attached to the characters in the movie. A great example for why I feel this way is how the movie tells Carl Fredrickson's relationship with his late wife Ellie. The first time Carl meets Ellie as children shows how Carl slowly falls in love with Ellie and ends up marrying her when they both became adults.

As their story progresses the movie shows their emotion of happiness doing things together and wanting to have a child. Although the film also shows the sad moments in their life when they found out they couldn't have children, they both overcome it together and try to achieve their childhood dreams of wanting to go to paradise falls until Ellie sadly died due to sickness.

Even so, as the story of the move progresses,  when Carl sat down on the chair where he and Ellie used to sit together, and goes through Ellie's Adventure book, he find pictures of them together in the adventure book with a note by Ellie saying thank you to Carl. The common thing in these scenes is how well the animators are able to express the characters emotion in a way where the viewer will able to feel what the characters are feeling, and not just by the character's expressions, but in music as well. The music that they use for Carl and Ellie's scene was amazing, they are able to give the right emotion for the scenes by using the higher notes for the happy moments and lower notes for the sad moments. The feeling of being able to feel the characters emotion is the reason why I love this movie even now.

Overall, I think that this a great movie for people of any age to watch and feel invested in their great characters and storytelling.
